November Author Spotlight [BOX SPOILERS]

November Author Spotlight [BOX SPOILERS]

Welcome to Scribbler’s author spotlight series — an interview with our subscription box‘s monthly author! Each month, we’ll interview the author of our featured book to help you learn a little more about them and their writing process.

This month’s spotlight is on Rebekah Crane. Their novel June, Reimagined, is our November read. You can find June, Reimagined for sale anywhere books are sold.

From the writer who brought you the Irish romance The Upside of Falling Down comes a new novel about secrets, friendship, reinvention, and unexpected love in the Scottish Highlands.

June Merriweather is on the run—from her own life. Her brother is dead, her parents are liars, and her college major is a joke. Apart from her best friend, Matt, June is desperate for reinvention. And a one-way ticket out of Cincinnati to the Scottish Highlands is a good place to start.

With a backpack, an urn, and a secret, June begins again. She snags a job at a café and finds lodging at a quaint inn with a quirky cast of housemates. The only problem: the inn’s infuriatingly perceptive (and sexy) owner, Lennox. He’s suspicious of June. After all, no one comes to Scotland in the winter unless they’re running from something. From rocky start to sizzling temptation, June’s new world is exhilarating…and one detour away from disaster.

With her past and her future both vying for attention, June can’t begin to picture where her reimagined life is headed next. And falling in love with the last person she expected is only the beginning.

Rebekah Crane is the author of June, Reimagined, The Upside of Falling Down, The Odds of Loving Grover Cleveland and other swoon-worthy adult and young-adult novels. She studied secondary English education at Ohio University. Rebekah now lives in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains with her husband, two daughters, and their rambunctious husky, Grover. She spends most days tucked behind a laptop at seventy-five hundred feet, where the altitude only enhances the writing experience. Thank you for the interview, Rebekah Crane!

1. “Pantser” or “Plotter?”

Plotter. Structure is my best friend. The idea of pantsing gives me hives.

2. How many hours a day do you write?

Three to six hours, but rarely on the weekends.

3. Who’s your favorite fictional character?

This question is so hard! The first one who popped into my mind was Eleanor from Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

4. What’s your favorite part of the writing process?

Finishing a first draft. Best. Feeling. Ever.

5. Do you prefer writing on paper or doing everything digitally?

I do almost everything digitally, except I always have a notebook next to my computer. Physically writing important details/ideas solidifies them in my brain.

6. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot?

The Buddha, to remind me to stay calm, ignore my doubts, and take a deep breath.

7. What was the last thing (song, podcast, etc.) you listened to?

Mumford and Sons on Spotify.

8. If you could time travel (to the past or future), where/when would you go?

Early 1800s England.

9. If there’s a spider in your house, do you kill it or set it free?

Set it free, if my kids don’t kill it first!

10. What’s something you could eat for a week straight?

Tofu. I know… so lame. But I freaking love tofu! Or peanut butter.
